What a great day for cricket. Many thanks to those who made the effort to come up to the ground on Saturday to watch some very entertaining cricket and to help Santa distribute some joy. The atmosphere was terrific and it was great to see so many kids running around the joint. And a special thanks to those that stayed back until the early hours to assist with the pre Xmas bar stock take !!! Now to the cricket:

ONES: The scene was set in part on Thursday night when Tanky and Culls committed to open the batting and deliver a message. Bradd T not out 59 and Culls No 40 and we reversed the GF loss with no wickets lost and in only 17 overs. Job done. But in a day that he will remember for a while, Callum Reid provided the platform for an early finish when he finished with figures of 6/36 off his 10 overs. What a great way to bounce back and silence some of his hecklers. At one stage East Burwood was 5/27 and in the end their top scorer was Extras. A great way to enter the Xmas break, and an even better way to say thanks to Micky Pearson.

TWOS: Were pretty stiff in the end but only have themselves to blame. They only made 96 and Benny Stoikos contributed 51 of thoseBut in a very tight game they had East Burwood 8/84 but could not get the last 2 wickets. Best of the bowlers was Zane Gelsi getting 3/25 and Belly found some form to get 2/22. A far better showing than in recent games and an even stronger team should be available in the NY.

THREES: Got the points with a hard fought win against Laburnam. They could only manage 134 from their 40 overs and Matt eaton bowled fast and hard to get 4/35. And a special mention for Lachie Harding who bowled on the spot and got figures of 1/20 off his 10 overs to put them under pressure. Then our turn to bat and we chased them down with 8 overs to spare. A couple of our young guns led the way, with Jordy Wright leading with 40 and Tyler Dobay getting 37. Oh and TR hit the winning 6 !!!!!

FOURS: This mixed bag of experience and fresh legs continue to roll along and again picked up the points. We batted first and knocked up 156 from our 32 overs, With Patto retiring on 50 and Gizza next best with 38 (now theres a battle to the end as to who will be King Kahuna at seasons end.) We then got Park Orchards out for 141. Gizza won the battle this week and led the bowling with 3/19 off his 8 overs and Zaff picked up 2 wickets as he starts to get back in the swing.

FIFTHS: Played a good side and in the end lost a game they perhaps should have won. But the experience our younger boys are getting while playing with their Dads on a Saturday afternoon will deliver long term benefits in the end. Bulleen Temp made 174 from their 32 overs and the chase was certainly on. Lachy Reidy picked up 2/36 and the other wickets were spread around. We were in the chase right to the end but a catch on the boundary line pulled us up 9 runs short. Boof Lehman was under pressure for his uninspiring Captaincy but he bounced back well to be NO 51. And Barny Moulder was next best with 38, which on reflection makes a mockery of our youth program ??? Not really, just some experienced heads leading by example. Next time boys !!!
