The lead up to the 2019/20 season is in full swing with training started for more than four weeks now, and with good number building each week. A few changes in the constant evolution of the club with Cal Reid electing to try out at Ringwood to further challenge his cricket, good luck Cal and remember the club is always open for you.
On the other hand, we have been busy in the off-season with a strong recruiting campaign and we have added a few great additions to the squad.
Archie is from England and arrives into the country late September where he will join us straight away. At 19 years of age , Archie is a talented top order bat/keeper which is a great pick up with Will Hastings being away before Christmas. Many thanks to Cube for getting Archie across from the UK and also a big thanks to Campbell & Lindsay Horlock for agreeing to look after him while he's here in Australia
Dimma is the former Captain/Coach of Montrose Cricket Club. He is a tenacious right-arm medium to quick seamer/cutter who brings a wealth of experience and a very herd edge.
Rajith is from Sri Lanka and has a lot of experience playing at a top level with Galle. Rajith is another great addition with a sharp right-arm and a handy right-hand bat. We hope to have Rajith arrive late September where he will join us straight away.
Please make our new players feel welcome at our club and I encourage you make the effort to introduce yourself when they arrive.
Another big shout-out goes to club legend Brad Cullen and My Club Gear for doing another great job with our spectacular new One-Day match clothing and club apparel in general. Time & time again Brad puts in many hours to design, create, order & deliver our club apparel for virtually no reward, a true champion on & off the field.
This season in Ray McIntosh Shield there will be 8 teams instead of 12 teams as in recent seasons, and each team will play 7 One-Day games at 40 overs each, and 7 Two-Day games at 80 overs each. For the One-Day matches, we will wear the new coloured clothing, and for Two-Day games our apparel will be the normal whites. The new playing gear looks amazing thanks to My Club Gear.
A very exciting off-field development over the pre-season is the announcement of our major sponsor Jellis Craig. Matthew Scafidi and his professional team at Jellis Craig Mitcham will continue their magnificent support of Vermont Cricket Club this season and beyond, and we are very proud to be associated with the Jellis Craig partnership.
October 26th 2019 is a confirmed One-Day match and as such we have requested this game to be scheduled against Heatherdale at Vermont Reserve for our annual Teal Cup Ovarian Cancer awareness game. This is shaping up to be a massive day starting with a chicken/champagne luncheon for the ladies to raise awareness for Ovarian Cancer, and later that evening we will hold our first major function with The Robbie Williams Experience live on stage & set to ignite VCC. Please support what will be another huge event for us, tickets now available at www.oztix.com or ticket will be available at the door on the night.
Thanks also goes to Butch who once again will be running the 250 Club. Details will be available in the next few weeks but I can announce that this year's pack includes a hat, shirt, stubby holder, VCC sticker and the complimentary Thursday & Saturday drink. This is 'off the hook' value at only $250 which is a major source of revenue and support for our club.
Great to see many people now using the Team App which is a very effective way of communication to all players & members throughout the club. For those who haven't yet, please download TEAM APP on your device from the App Store or Google Play and search for VERMONT CC then register your details and request to join. Once that is done who you will be accepted in and have access to all information and communication from the club.
The 2019/20 season is shaping up to be very exciting on & off the field, let's all get behind the mighty VCC.
